Byron Winter Visitor Campaign Launched!

Byron shire’s winter tourism marketing campaign has commenced.

Crafted by the new shire wide representative body for the visitor industry VIA Byron, the campaign will run for the next few months.

Targeting visitors aged thirty-five and over nationally through digital marketing, social media, billboards, direct marketing and public relations, the campaign seeks to support participating businesses during the quieter winter months.

“We have taken the best elements from previous campaigns such as the Byron Naturally campaign and worked from there” said VIA Byron’s Cameron Arnold. “Destination marketing is one facet of a functional visitor industry and we want all to know that VIA Byron is about so much more than marketing. It’s incredibly exciting to finally have all the key stakeholders for tourism and the visitor economy in the Byron shire talking from the same page. This is our greatest achievement so far”.

The group, which boasts members including Byron Shire Council, the Brunswick Visitor Centre, the Mullumbimby Chamber of Commerce, the Byron Visitor Centre, Byron United, Business Ashored (Ocean Shores) and the Bangalow Chamber of Commerce represents Byron shire’s visitor industry at local, state and federal level. VIA Byron was formed in 2012 to provide leadership, strategic direction and cohesion to the local industry, which has been valued at between $350 and $400 million. They are actively funded for three years and are “building acumen to secure long term funding” according to Cameron Arnold.

“Hats off to this new unifying tourism force for our shire” said Byron Shire Mayor Simon Richardson. “We are one of the most, if not the most, naturally endowed regions in this country. Sustainable tourism should always be at the heart of our economic, cultural and social planning. I am seeing more people working together across the whole of the shire toward creative tourism outcomes and I’m loving it.

“Getting our tourism approach right is a long term organic process. Like everything in Byron, it’s a journey. The collective work of VIA Byron to date is clear indication that we have come a long way”.

Dane-and-Belinda-Tucquet-60x60

Folk duo at resort for Mothers’ Day

Mothers’ Day is always special at The Byron at Byron and this year is no exception.

Dane and Belinda Tucquet of Bluebird Music

The resort has enlisted renowned alt-folk duo Dane and Belinda Tucquet of Bluebird Music to delight and entertain with their original songs and unique interpretations of covers on guitar, vocals, piano and cello.

Award winning singer songwriter Dane Tucquet received critical acclaim and an Australian Music Prize nomination for his debut album Bury Me in my Headphones. Celebrated for his hypnotic live performances and idiosyncratic vocal range, Tucquet’s originality and compelling presence has seen him tour with the likes of Martha Wainwright, Clare Bowditch and Joan As Policewoman.

In addition to his own headline tours he has performed at St Jerome’s Laneway, Queenscliff and Great Escape Festivals. He also collaborated on the soundtrack to award-winning filmmaker Mick Water’s documentary Little Black Wheels. Often described as a modern day Tom Waits, Dane is an exponent of noir-folk.

Belinda Tucquet’s raw musicality is evident through her dual professions of practicing music therapist in Brisbane and multi-instrumentalist, accompanist, and performer. She is a fan of the Bach cello suites and Prince in equal measure.

“In my work I have met and been inspired by so many amazing women who literally go to the ends of the earth for their kids” said Belinda Tucquet. “I’m looking to being a part of Mothers’ Day at The Byron at Byron and love the idea of one day taking off on the crazy, beautiful motherhood journey myself!”

The Byron at Byron’s Head Chef Gavin Hughes has created a special menu for the day which offers a choice of four entrées and four main courses. “There are some mothers’ favourites including Tartlet of Zest spiced pumpkin with silverbeet, fetta and candied walnuts, Grass fed eye fillet with parmesan mash, roasted beetroots and grated horseradish and Freckle’s fish of the day with pea risotto, zucchini flower, smoked tomatoes and pea tendrils” said the father of two.

Sunday 12th May, 12:30pm. $69 per person for two courses, signature cocktail and a rose for mum and entertainment by Bluebird Music. Children aged twelve and under may dine from the childrens’ menu.
