The son of a music teacher, Josh Boyd has been performing since the age of three. After winning several New Zealand national jazz awards he was invited to perform and teach at the Queenstown International Jazz Festival alongside James Morrison. Josh has since graced stages all over the world. His passionate delivery is warm and upbeat, combining funk, folk, rock and jazz.

“Mothers’ Day is a great day for everyone to show their appreciation for their mother” said Josh Boyd. “I really miss my mum, she lives in New Zealand and she’s my biggest fan. So I’ll be giving her a call to let her know that I’m thinking about her. What better place to spend Mothers’ Day than at the Byron at Byron with the sun shining. I’ll be doing a bit of laid back jazz and some different versions of modern songs. Some good music to relax to on a Sunday”.

On Wednesday April 29 The Byron at Byron Resort and Spa welcomes Andrew Hardy, Chief Winemaker from leading South Australian winery Petaluma for a very special celebratory dinner.

Five of Petaluma’s finest wines will compliment four courses from The Byron at Byron’s Head Chef Gavin Hughes.

Andrew commenced his winemaking career at Petaluma in 1982, working with founder Brian Croser before moving to work vintages in Oregon and Bordeaux. He settled at Knappstein for almost a decade where he was awarded the Warren Winiarski Trophy for the Best Australian Red Wine. In 2004 he returned to Petaluma where he has relished in his role as “Custodian of the vineyards”.

Petaluma’s success is based upon planting the right varieties for individual vineyards in regions where the varietals excel. The Yellow Label has garnered significant acclaim for riesling from the Clare Valley, sparkling from the Picadilly Valley in the Adelaide Hills, shiraz from Mount Barker in the Adelaide Hills and cabernet from Coonawarra.

“This will be anything but a boring wine dinner” said Gavin Hughes. “Andrew is a fascinating and genuinely charming fellow and we plan to have a little bit of banter throughout the evening. Guests are welcome to join in. Food and wine are everything, so when a special person such as Andrew comes along we are excited to share him with our local guests and friends.

“The menu to me is all of the things I like in Autumn and as always the meal will pay homage to our local growers and producers. Whilst there are five different wines we would like you to try, if guests prefer to stay with a particular wine that’s okay too.”

Byron’s traffic congestion has been suggested as one contributor to the staggering sales at Tallowood Ridge in Mullumbimby. In the past three weeks alone six sales have been made to Byron shire locals. Every available parcel but two sold over the summer period, pushing forward the release of Stage 4.

With the exception of a buyer each from South Australia and Brisbane, all sales since September have been to Byron shire residents. “I think once people move into the Byron shire they don’t want to leave” outlined Adam Mangleson from Chincogan Real Estate, who has personally purchased two lots at Tallowood Ridge. “And for sure traffic issues are pushing some locals away from Byron Bay itself, although it will always be popular given its natural assets.

Ryan Clarke is a Mullumbimby local who now lives with his young family in Brisbane. “We saw an opportunity with the Tallowood Ridge development” he said. “When we had a look at it we really loved the vibe of the community and the facilities that they’ve got. The block we bought has a lovely vista over Mount Chincogan. Having lived in different parts of the Byron Shire I know that when we do come back that’s where we’ll want to be. Mullum’s a great place to base yourself”.

Byron Council has confirmed that a full sized tennis court and basketball half court will be developed at Tallowood Ridge in 2015, with a full sized football field with a cricket pitch in season to follow. Council also recently granted a revised consent for three lots on the ridgeline. The public can now access the shelter belt, an area now classified open space to preserve the native trees in perpetuity.

“As prices rise it becomes even more evident how much better value Tallowood Ridge is in comparison to other areas” outlined Adam Mangleson. “Plus you have all the other reasons to buy there. Mullum is probably a bit safer, there is less crime and it’s a genuinely unique lifestyle option. More and more serious buyers are coming looking for real estate in Mullumbimby. They just can’t look past Tallowood Ridge for amenity and value. As it keeps improving and getting more established, friends and family visit the existing residents and they realize what a great spot it is”.

Following the summer sales Stage 4 has been released ahead of schedule to meet demand. Land at Tallowood Ridge is priced from $279,000 for a 530m2 site with breezes, big views and a near level building pad.

Following an intensive seven months of construction Sunrise Beach’s new local has thrown open its doors. The Sun Bistro, at the end of Bayshore Drive, opened to the public on Tuesday December 16.

Suzy Campbell from Sunrise Beach has lived in Byron Bay since 1969. “With the Suffolk Park Hotel all the locals go there, you can get to know your neighbours” said Suzy. “That’s what The Sun Bistro will do for Sunrise. We’ll be able to wander down there and have a meal and a glass of wine. It will make Sunrise more of a community”.

“Our team are working tirelessly” said Development Director Jeremy Holmes. “Bennett Constructions have done an amazing job in bringing our vision to life and we are thrilled that they will continue to work with us now on the construction at North Byron Beach Resort. We’re hoping for a great response from the community”.

The Sun will open seven days a week from 10:00am – 10:00pm and 10:00am to midnight Friday and Saturdays. The Sun houses a bistro, bar, sports lounge and TAB, undercover childrens’ play lounge, back deck, landscaped gardens, car park and drive through bottle shop, all nestled into a stunning landscape backdrop.

A complimentary shuttle bus will operate seven nights a week from 6:00pm servicing Sunrise, the Arts and Industry Estate and Ewingsdale.
